Car accident physiotherapy.
Car accidents create a complex web of injuries often involving multiple structures simultaneously. Whiplash, concussion, back pain, shoulder trauma, and nerve irritation can all be present after a single collision. At Motion Theory, we conduct a comprehensive multi-region assessment and build a unified recovery plan that addresses all injury layers, not just the loudest symptom.
Who It's For
Anyone injured in a motor vehicle accident in BC, regardless of whether you were driving, a passenger, a cyclist, or a pedestrian. We treat acute presentations within the first few weeks as well as delayed-onset cases and patients who feel stuck after the initial recovery plateau.
What We Assess
A post-MVA assessment at Motion Theory covers the full body systematically including cervical spine, thoracic spine, shoulders, lumbar spine, hips, and cranial screening for concussion. Objective measures are documented for each affected region, establishing the clinical baseline your ICBC claim file requires.
Treatment Approach
Treatment is guided by a graded return-to-activity model. Early care manages pain and restores function progressively. Mid-phase care rebuilds strength and capacity in affected structures. Late-phase care integrates full occupational, recreational, and social demands to get you back to your life before the accident.
Recovery Pathway
Injury Management & Mobility
Pain management, gentle mobility restoration, postural re-education, and nervous system calming techniques.
Capacity Rebuilding
Progressive strengthening of injured regions, neuromuscular retraining, and activity tolerance build.
Full Functional Return
Return to all pre-accident activities with objective reassessment, claim documentation, and discharge planning.
Clinic Location & Access
Located at 1367 West Broadway in Vancouver, Motion Theory is situated in the Fairview medical corridor, in close proximity to Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). We serve patients from Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, and the broader Metro Vancouver area.
Common Questions
I did not feel pain right after the accident. When should I start physio?
Many MVA injuries present with a 24 to 72 hour delay due to adrenaline and inflammation. Early assessment is still recommended as we document your initial presentation, which is important for your ICBC claim regardless of pain severity.
Can I start treatment before ICBC opens my claim?
Yes. You can begin treatment and attach your claim number once it is assigned. We support the administrative process to ensure your file is handled correctly from the start.
What if my injuries seem minor?
Minor-seeming injuries after an MVA, particularly neck and back pain, can develop into chronic conditions if not treated early. Active rehabilitation in the first 12 weeks is the strongest predictor of long-term outcome.
