ICBC / MVA Rehab

Whiplash Treatment in Vancouver.

Whiplash is more than “a stiff neck.” For many people it’s a pattern of symptoms that can include neck pain, upper back pain, headaches, and sensitivity to driving, sitting, or screen work.

The Rehabilitation Plan

A good whiplash plan has two parts:

1. Understand what's happening

So you stop catastrophizing normal symptom changes.

2. Follow a staged progression

So you can move without flare-ups controlling your life.

What We Assess

  • Neck mobility and tolerance

  • Strength and endurance in the neck/upper back

  • Headache contributors (including cervicogenic patterns)

  • Nerve-related symptoms when present

  • Concussion overlap when symptoms suggest it (dizziness, exercise intolerance, screen intolerance)

Treatment Approach

Most effective rehab is active and staged:

Phase 1

Gentle mobility and symptom-calming strategies early.

Phase 2

Progressive strengthening and endurance work.

Phase 3

Pacing rules for sitting, driving, and work tasks.

Phase 4

Education about expected symptom variability.

Common Questions

How long does whiplash last?

Recovery varies. Many improve over weeks; some need longer.

Should I rest or keep moving?

Complete rest often slows recovery; relative rest plus staged movement is commonly used.

Are headaches normal with whiplash?

They can be. Assessment helps determine likely contributors.
