Return-to-work rehab.
Returning to work after injury is not simply a matter of pain reduction. It is a functional capacity question. A teacher, a nurse, a carpenter, and an office worker all have entirely different demands that their bodies must be able to meet before returning safely. Motion Theory builds return-to-work programs that bridge the gap between clinical recovery and genuine occupational readiness.
Who It's For
Workers recovering from acute injuries, post-surgical presentations, or chronic occupational conditions who are preparing to return to their job. We work with WorkSafeBC, ICBC, and extended health funded programs, as well as self-paying patients.
What We Assess
Your assessment includes an analysis of your specific occupational demands including duration, load, posture, repetition, and environmental factors. We compare these against your current functional capacity to identify the specific gaps your program needs to close.
Treatment Approach
Return-to-work rehab is task-specific. Treatment includes targeted strength and endurance training, work simulation exercises, lifting mechanics coaching, and graded work exposure. When appropriate, we coordinate with employers, occupational therapists, and case managers to support a graduated return plan.
Recovery Pathway
Capacity Assessment
Define your occupational demands and map your current functional capacity. Identify the specific gaps between the two.
Occupational Conditioning
Work-simulation training, task-specific strengthening, posture endurance, and progressive tolerance of occupational loads.
Graduated Return
Coordinated return-to-work plan, modified duties support if required, and functional clearance documentation for WorkSafeBC or employer.
Clinic Location & Access
Located at 1367 West Broadway in Vancouver, Motion Theory is situated in the Fairview medical corridor, in close proximity to Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). We serve patients from Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, and the broader Metro Vancouver area.
Common Questions
My employer says I am ready to return but I do not feel ready. What can I do?
A functional capacity evaluation at Motion Theory can objectively document your current capacity versus the demands of your role. This provides evidence-based clarity for all parties.
Can you help with modified duties planning?
Yes. We can communicate with your employer or occupational therapist to recommend modified duty tasks that are within your current functional capacity, facilitating an earlier and safer return.
Does WorkSafeBC fund return-to-work physiotherapy?
Yes. Approved WorkSafeBC claims include physiotherapy treatment directed toward return-to-work goals. We bill WorkSafeBC directly for approved claims.
