Who It's For

BC residents with an active ICBC claim following a motor vehicle accident including drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians. We treat all injury types including whiplash, concussion, soft tissue injuries, fractures post-cast, and complex multi-structure presentations.

What We Assess

Your initial ICBC assessment documents the accident mechanism, onset of symptoms, and current functional limitations. We establish objective baseline metrics across all affected regions and review your ICBC claim status to ensure your treatment is correctly structured within the Enhanced Care framework.

Treatment Approach

ICBC rehabilitation at Motion Theory is active by design. Treatment includes manual therapy, targeted exercise prescription, neuromuscular retraining, and functional capacity restoration. Every session is documented with objective progress notes submitted to ICBC as required. We coordinate treatment plan extensions when clinically indicated.

Common Questions

Do I need to pay for ICBC physiotherapy?

Under ICBC's Enhanced Care program effective May 2021, most injury-related physiotherapy costs are covered directly. There is no deductible for physiotherapy in the first 12 weeks post-accident.

Do I need a doctor's referral to start?

No. You can book directly with us using your ICBC claim number. Enhanced Care pre-authorizes physiotherapy without a referral requirement.

What if my claim number is not ready yet?

You can begin treatment and we will add your claim information once it is available. ICBC allows retroactive claim attachment in most circumstances.

How many physiotherapy sessions does ICBC cover?

ICBC pre-authorizes physiotherapy for the first 12 weeks after your accident without requiring additional approval. If further treatment is clinically indicated after 12 weeks, we submit a treatment plan extension request to ICBC on your behalf.

What injuries from a car accident does physiotherapy treat?

We treat whiplash and cervical spine injuries, concussion and post-concussion syndrome, back pain, shoulder injuries, soft tissue injuries, nerve irritation, and psychological components of MVA recovery including pain sensitisation.

How soon after the accident should I start treatment?

As soon as possible. Early intervention, ideally within the first 5 to 7 days, significantly improves long-term outcomes. Delayed onset of pain (24 to 72 hours post-accident) is normal and does not mean you should wait. The sooner treatment begins, the better the trajectory.

What makes Motion Theory different from other ICBC physio clinics?

Our approach is active, not passive. We don't just apply heat and send you home with a band. We build a structured rehabilitation program with progressive loading, objective outcome tracking, and a clear pathway back to your pre-accident function, documented thoroughly for your ICBC claim file.
