Kinesiology.
Kinesiology at Motion Theory bridges the gap between initial physiotherapy treatment and full return to activity. Our kinesiologists design and supervise progressive exercise programs grounded in movement science, building the strength, endurance, and coordination you need to get back to work, sport, or daily life.
Who It's For
Patients transitioning from acute physiotherapy who need structured strength and conditioning to complete their recovery. Ideal for WorkSafeBC and ICBC clients requiring active rehabilitation, post-surgical patients in later-stage recovery, and individuals managing chronic pain or returning to physically demanding work or sport.
What We Assess
Functional movement screening, strength and endurance testing, cardiovascular capacity, workplace and sport-specific demands, pain response to loading, and readiness for progressive activity. Assessment findings are communicated to your physiotherapy or chiropractic team to ensure coordinated care.
Treatment Approach
Sessions are hands-on and exercise-focused. Your kinesiologist designs a progressive program based on your assessment, monitors your response, adjusts loading as you adapt, and tracks measurable milestones. Sessions may take place in the clinic or, through our PhysioHome service, in your home environment for patients who need it.
What to Expect
Functional Baseline
Full movement and strength assessment to establish where you are and set realistic recovery targets.
Progressive Loading
Structured exercise program with progressive increases in load, range, and complexity, always guided by your response.
Return to Demand
Sport, work, or activity-specific conditioning to ensure you're ready to return fully, not just symptom-free.

Common Questions
What is a kinesiologist?
A kinesiologist is a regulated health professional specializing in human movement and exercise science. In BC, kinesiologists are members of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK). They design and supervise therapeutic exercise programs as part of a broader rehabilitation team.
Is kinesiology covered by insurance?
Kinesiology is covered under many extended health plans in BC, and is commonly approved for WorkSafeBC and ICBC active rehabilitation programs. Coverage varies by plan, so we can help confirm your benefits before you start.
How is kinesiology different from physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy typically leads the initial assessment, diagnosis, and hands-on treatment phase. Kinesiology focuses on progressive exercise, movement retraining, and building functional capacity, often running concurrently with or following physiotherapy to complete the recovery.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to see a kinesiologist at Motion Theory. However, for ICBC or WorkSafeBC-funded kinesiology, a treatment plan approval may be required. We can help you navigate that process.
